A healing crisis is natural part of the healing process that the body may experience as you move toward better health with natural healing or a shift to better nutrition. The body heals itself from the inside out, and it must eliminate toxic residues, stored drugs, pollution, additives, and improper food that have built up in your body over the years. In its efforts to clean house (detoxify) and to repair and rebuild internal organs, you may experience headache, tiredness, flu-like symptoms, fatigue or other symptoms. This is the body’s way of rebalancing, and can be temporarily uncomfortable.
Without the proper nutritional factors, the body cannot throw off stored toxins. If given the proper food, fresh water, fresh air and rest it is quite capable of dealing with its own health problems and avoiding disease. Working towards a healing crisis may take a child three to fourteen days; whereas it might take an adult three months or more to work into a healing crisis. Just before a healing crisis the person will feel wonderful, but the next day they will be flat on his/her back. The average time for a healing crisis is three days. If you find yourself in the middle of a healing crisis, let your health practitioner know that you are feeling sick and that you think you may be having a healing crisis. Get professional support if you are unsure that this is what is really happening, verse having an infection or other illness. Rest, drink lots of water and herb tea, consider doing an enema and let the healing happen.
